Bangkok IIFA Awards 2008

Bangkok IIFA Awards 2008: Om Shanti Om swept a number of technical awards on Sunday night.

The film bagged awards for best special effects (Red Chillies Entertainment), best art direction (Sabu Cyril), best costume design (Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar and Sanjeev Mulchandani) and best makeup.

Well, it didn’t end there for Shah Rukh. The Superstar and Shimit Amin lifted the Best Actor and Best Director trophies respectively for ‘Chak De! India’. Apart from winning awards for the best story and screenplay, this film won critical acclaim and mass popularity and was therefore honored as the Best Film. However, Shah Rukh was not present at the gala and producer Yash Copra accepted the award on his behalf.

Imtiaz Ali was named the best dialogue writer and Kareena Kapoor was again named the Best Actress for ‘Jab We Met’. The Best Male and Best Female style icons were Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif, respectively. The award for the Best Performance in a Negative Role went to Viveik Oberoi for ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’, while the one for the Best Performance in a Comic Role went to none other than Govinda for his performance in ‘Partner’.

Some of the other awards were as follows: The Best Male and Best Female style icons were Abhishek Bachchan and Katrina Kaif, respectively. Neil Nitin Mukesh was the Fresh Face of the Year.

Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal, and Mumtaz won the special honors for Lifetime Achievement. Akshay Kumar bagged the special award from the host country, Thailand.

At the grand ceremony at Siam Niramik, Karan Johar, Urmila Matondkar, Boman Irani and Ritesh Deshmukh compeered Bollywood’s much awaited award ceremony and they kept the crowd well entertained.
